What you need

Letters (bodies)Diffusers (white)LED strip + USB
  • the printed letters and one diffuser per letter
  • a 5 V LED strip with USB connector – as wide as you chose in the designer (8, 10 or 12 mm); length: roughly the sum of the letter heights plus 20 cm spare
  • an adhesive for plastics (e.g. superglue gel or two-component adhesive), scissors, a ruler
  • optional: hot glue to fix the strip, masking tape, fine sandpaper

1 Glue the letters together

keep channel clear
  1. Lay the letters side by side in the right order on a flat surface – the open side faces forward.
  2. Fit them together once without glue: the channels in the side walls must line up exactly.
  3. Apply a little adhesive to the joining surfaces, not into the channels – that is where the LED strip will run.
let it cure
  1. Press the letters together and align the bottom edge with a ruler so the lamp stands straight.
  2. Let the adhesive cure as stated on the packaging. Masking tape holds the parts together in the meantime.

2 Stick in and thread the LED strip

through the channelcable opening
  1. Push the USB plug from the inside through the cable opening in the first letter and out the back.
  2. Stick the strip along the inside wall – the LEDs face inwards, towards the diffuser. Peel off the backing bit by bit as you go.
  3. At the transition to the next letter, thread the strip through the channel and keep sticking on the other side.
  4. Do not kink the strip: in tight curves, make a small loop instead.
cut only at the marktest before closing
  1. Cut off the excess only at a cut mark (usually a scissors symbol or copper pads).
  2. Plug in the USB plug once: do all letters light up? Only then carry on. You can fix loose spots with a drop of hot glue.

3 Fit the diffusers

recessedset back, the rim stands proudflushlevel with the rim at the frontsection through a letter · front = top
  1. Insert each diffuser into its letter from the front until it rests on the ledge inside.
  2. Recessed: the flat side faces the back, the rim of the letter stands proud at the front and frames the light. Flush: the flat side faces forward and sits level with the rim.
  3. If a diffuser is loose, two or three drops of adhesive on the ledge are enough – never on the light surface, and do not touch the fresh glue with your fingers.
plug in USB –done!

Good to know

Printing

  • Every letter and every diffuser is a separate part in the 3MF file.
  • Print the letters with the open side facing up, the diffusers with the flat side on the print bed.
  • Print the diffusers in white or natural – thin and light-coloured, they glow most evenly.
  • Light body colours let some light through the wall; dark colours or more wall loops block it better.
  • Bambu Studio says the 3MF file is not from Bambu Lab – simply confirm and the parts will be loaded.

Light

  • COB strips give a very even surface; individual LEDs (SMD) tend to show dots of light.
  • Warm white (about 2700–3000 K) feels cosiest – ideal as a night light.
  • Use a USB dimmer or a strip with a remote control to adjust the brightness.

Safety

  • Only use 5 V strips with a certified USB power supply – no mains voltage in the lamp.
  • Plastic (PLA) softens from about 55 °C: do not place the lamp in direct sunlight, next to radiators or on heat sources.
  • The lamp is a decorative item, not a toy. Keep cables and small parts out of reach of young children.

Care

  • Dust with a dry, soft cloth – no solvents.
  • A faulty strip can be replaced: carefully lever out the diffuser and stick in a new strip.
